Battlefield 2042: Kein Free-to-Play – Spiel bleibt Premium!

Shooter Fans hatten sich bereits gefreut um einen Kauf von Battlefield 2042 drum herum zu kommen, denn insgeheim wurde noch immer daran geglaubt, dass EA ebenso wie Activision mit Call of Duty Warzone einen Free-to-Play Aspekt bzw. Spielmodus mit in Battlefield 2042 bringt.

Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Willson hat nun nochmal beteuert, dass Battlefield und Shooter Fans besser nicht auf eine Free-to-Play Version von Battlefield 2042 oder einen Free-to-Play Spielmodus hoffen sollten. Weder Battlefield Portal, noch der Hazard Zone Spielmodus sind derzeit als Free-to-Play-Fassung geplant. Wer die Spielmodi spielen möchte, der muss eine der drei Version des Shooters kaufen oder ein EA Play Pro Abonnement abschließen.

Ob diese Entscheidung am Ende belohnt wird, bleibt abzuwarten. Wenn man in Betracht zieht, wie sehr der Battlefield V Firestorm-Modus aufgrund fehlender Spieler gescheitert ist, darf man durchaus skeptisch bleiben. Es bleibt abzuwarten, ob DICE und EA die Spielerzahlen auf Dauer auf einem einem ähnlichen Niveau wie Activision in Call of Duty Warzone halten kann.

When we think about all of our games and our big blockbuster franchises like Apex, like FIFA, like Madan, like Battlefield, like the Sims, we’re always thinking about innovation and creativity at its core, how do we build that out in the modalities of play? How do we think about that across platform? How do we think about the extension of those experiences? And business model is 1 piece of that puzzle. I think when we look at our Battleford franchise today, we’ve acknowledged that it probably makes sense to have a free-to-play component to that overall ecosystem in the future. Job number one was truly a reinvention of the action shooter category. And I think that’s what they have sought to do. And that’s what they’ve achieved through this 128 player multiplayer giant expansion, more deep engagement in creativity through portal mode and innovative new modes in and around the game. I think the next phase of that is going to be the launch of the Battlefield mobile title. And then as we continue to expand that — and that in and of itself will serve tens of millions of players. I think as we then think about further expanding the play those over time, free-to-play will make sense for the franchise, but it’s not the focus right now.

Aus Willson´s Aussagen geht aber auch hervor, dass man sich sämtliche Optionen offen hält die Exklusivität des Spiels und vereinzelter Spielmodi aufzuheben. Für Käufer der Vollversion soll das erste Jahr aber exklusiv bleiben. Battlefield 2042 wird also mindestens für das erste Jahr ein Premium Erlebnis bleiben, für das je nach Version zwischen 60 – 120 Euro bezahlt werden muss.

Letztlich bleibt mit Battlefield Mobile dann aber doch noch eine Free-2-Play Alternative im Battlefield Franchise, so Wilson. Der Mobile Ableger soll das ganze Ausmaß des Krieges” im Jahr 2022 auf Smartphones und Tablets bringen und wird vom Entwicklerstudio “Industrial Toys” entwickelt.
